1999-12-18 Happy Saturday again ! This is an intense period of the year, foregoing Christmas and the new millennium. Will I be able to add a new millennium anthem at my songs-page before the end of the year ? Big question. Noone knows, least of all I. I will certainly try, rely on that. It seems my music recording software actually works a couple of notches better under Windows 98(ServicePack-1), than earlier under the more buggier Windows 95 OSR-2. I would really have loved to start using Windows 2000 more, but key essential hardware and software doesnīt work under it for me. I.e. my scanner didnīt work at all, while itīs really great under Win98. My CD-RW was possible to get functioning, but only partially, it was no way to get it to read Direct-CD recordings. While it did function like a normal CD-writer under NERO software (but not Adaptec). My SB Live! soundcard was possible to get functioning like a normal soundcard, but the dedicated esoterical features of Live! ware 3.0 was far off (there where some unsupported roundgoings downloadable at Betanews at the time, but I thought it was too much about it). Itīs a pity, since Windows 2000 seems to be the best OS yet. For now, upcoming Windows Millennium is possibly the best bet: because one doesnīt want to go around shopping new hardware all the time. For businesses though; get Windows 2000, itīs much better than earlier MS Crashware. About other stuff: I got me a new display, to utilize my graphics card better. The old display was rather slow. Now I can use 32-bit color in 1024x768 at over 100Hz updating speed. Ultra stable. But most difference is obvious under 3D gaming, where itīs really easy to see how much the internal electronics of the display affects the whole performance and not only the graphics card. At the moment Iīm busy playing "Half Life", very good Open GL graphics that operates at an awesome speed for me now. And, yes, Iīm growing more and more fond of HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 as a web editor. It really has anamazing functionality. I have to evaluate the new Macromedia Dreamweaver 3.0, in bundle with Home Site 4.0, as soon as possible. Will be fun to see if itīs possible to work even more effectively. Anyway, I have to go to all the Christmas Balls this week. And probably consume a considerable amount of other than soft-drinks. At the next occasion Iīll be writing in this space, I guess Christmas is over. I hope you gave away, and also got, some nice Christmas gifts. And really had a good time. See Ya and Happy Christmas.
