fucking best webzine !

2000-02-04

Another friday. One of the first of the new millenia. Whatīs up ? Are you into something fun ? Am I into something fun ? Not really, what I can think of. I helped a serious gaming friend to get Win 98 onto his machine during the week. He was very grateful, as he had no idea his equipment could work that well, having had a buggy OEM Win 95 SR-2 before.

I have skated a lot of course ( bought new Bauer:s, remember ?), we have a very big park in the middle of Stockholm city where I have skated on itīs machine-frozen ice-track during lunch hours almost every day. Apart from being icehockey nostalgic, it has been very good for my right foot and itīs supporting musculature, which I almost brooke off my leg during two sequential accidents this summer. Since Iīve actually have played ice-hockey in the serial system, I have a quite advanced skating style and really have to think about what I do with my right foot not to break it off again. Exciting.

Itīs been getting as little more light outside ( I live not too far from the arctic circle, so we have very dark winters here). The light makes me long for the mountain bike season, it will be fun to enter the bike once again. Not to mention sun and bath, of course.

Sad news that Swedish ice-hockey megastar Peter Forsberg was seriously hurt in the NHL once again this week. I hope the managing staff in the NHL league starts taking all this unneccessary brutal violence seriously.

Another extremely dark event in the history of mankind took place in Austria this week, as an openly pro nazi-party took half of the places in the countrys governing ministry. The EU is raging out loud, but Austria is protected by itīs veto rights. Bizarre, as this take place in the same country that hosted the dreaded "crystal-night" in itīs capital Vienna during World War 2. Seems like history have nothing to learn people, at least when the peoples government (Austria had former nazi officer Kurt Waldheim as president from 1986-1992 !) have been hiding all the facts all these years. And the big anonymous mass is easily lead by opportunists (that applies to all countries) promising gold and green valleys. Yak !!!

When will people learn that reality is far more complicated than what slimey politicians suggest to them ? Internet provides some hope though, as it makes it harder to quiet down actually sentient beings, at least if one decides to have an internet (internet access is still forbidden in not so few countries around the world).

Now, what have all this to do with music ? Important issues. Might be worth doing a song about ? And to what mean do all this applies to computing ? Just some stuff to remind oneself that theres a lot of things going on out there that deserves ones attention mabe more than treading apps in C++ ( sun and bath definetely do ). But when thereīs spare time left, improving the world of computing is not a bad thing to do. Never grow fanatic though, whether this applies to computing, music, politics, drinking or even relaxing in the sun.

Mabe thatīs why Sweden allīn all is a quite successful country, we have this word in Swedish, Iīve been told donīt have any synonyme in any other language. The word is "lagom". "Lagom" means that one does something first after a very quick subconscious evaluation of all alternatives at disposal, wheighing them against each other to find the most productive mix and then act in the most successful way. That is "lagom". Not "right"( as in "the right stuff"), not wrong but "lagom". Something to think about. Just wonder when I will be creating music in a "lagom" way ?

See Ya/Per
