Đ 2000 Per Johansson All rights reserved 2000-04-08 So why am I mentioning my new car at a site supposed to concern music and computing ? For one, itīs a personal site and which car I drive reflects one facet of my personality. For the second, this(my car)is the place where I will be listening to music, mine and others, for the most in the future. This car features(naturally) a cd-player and good speakers, and itīs no big guess that I will burn a lot of my work on CD so this is a very suitable "live" auditioning place to monitor how my songs do in a "real" environment. To be able to compare my mix with that of renowned very good recordings and the hit-music on FM-radio in a place where most people actually listen to music(in their cars) is a great idea I think... To totally change subject; Iīm on the "Epigram..." mailing list and was fascinated this week over a flaming discussion about which "Black Sabbath"-era was the best ? In my opinion, itīs hard to really compare the different eras of that band, it really is like comparing totally different genres and bands. But what really flamed that discussion was that one, quite young, participator thought that the Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath was superior to all the others....that was an opinion hard core metal enthusiasts could never melt: of course Black Sabbath IS Ozzy, Paranoid, Sabbath bloody sabbath etc. As I just said; quite crazy to even compare those eras as their respectively produced albums could as well have been made in different solar systems. But, again, if one now should compare and I decide to throw in MY opinion...I am quite willing to give the youngster some credit and would certainly not accuse him for smoking bad shit...In my opinion then: original Sabbath was just awesome for itīs time but theres something around known as progress and even if Tony Martin Sabbath wasnīt even close to be a force of influence in itīs time, as there where others to take on the leaders sweater at that time, so purely musically(that should count, you know) was Tony Martin Sabbath much more enjoyable. But in no way new or groundbreaking or progressive or anything, just very pleasing to listen to. Original Sabbath was groundbreaking and might even have had some "feel"(based on alcohol and downers...) but musically, as they then where a young band, still had a lot more to learn. Tony Martin Sabbath might not have had that feel based on narcotics, and middle aged men are seldom accused for being revolutionary or sexy or animal magnetic or any of that stuff but those guys sure knew a lot about how to make great sounding music...just my personal opinion though. Of course I would never rank which era was the best, I just mean that itīs not perfectly obvious that one should throw ones Tony Martin Sabbath CD:s in the trash-bin or always put early Ozzy on a piedestal. But then again, I always thought what Genesis did was so much more important.... See Ya/Per
Completely different news is that I have bought me an old car, not as old as the old one I used to have but not a brand new. In fact, the cars body is completely designed by Pininfarina of Modena, Italy. A Ferrari ? No, not as fun as that but the car features very sleek styling indeed. Itīs a rather normal executive saloon though, made in France and it is the same model normally used to transport french Presidents and heads of state. So what car is it ? In case youīre not a car expert and already have guessed, it is a Peugeot 605. Of 1991. Itīs not a sports-car and should not be driven as one, but it sure is a comfortable and silent ride which really suits the CD-player in it... On music; I had tickets for the Dream Theater gig in Stockholm last week but couldnīt get the time to be there. Sad. I guess I really have to visit some gig soon to get the music spirit in me a couple of notches hotter, otherwise I will soon look as just a completely and utterly computer nerd when Iīm actually a metal guitarist on drift to yet unseen horizons... Anyway, I do hope all of you out there have been a little more productive. Iīm on a metal mailing list and itīs fun to read the comments and inlays. Itīs perfectly obvious that theres plenty of people out there dissecting metal music with the same energy and lust as I am trying to dissect my computer and the world of PC Programming...I used to be that way myself but havenīt since the late eighties; really, so much fun in the world - and so little time(who wantīs to contemplate the misery in the world...that stuff should pragmatily be dealt with by the worlds governments in the same way as one deal with ones dishes: a lot of filth, but have to be clean and shiny to the day after...too little decissiveness by politicians)... Hmm, nothing much more I can think of writing about for now but the sun has been shining a little here in Stockholm this week, even if itīs cold, and that makes one very eager to see yet another summer; how sweet...
