Congratulations
Yugoslavia !
It´s really great to witness(at distance) another addition to the
free world =). In case you haven´t heard; in the european country
of Yugoslavia there used to be a weird dictator named Slobodan Milosevic.
He did all the bad one can imagine, and a lot one can´t even imagine.
His own people finally where fed up, especially after a badly obviously
rigged election. They succeeded to do a peaceful, but massive, uprising
against the president(the military must have been in on the deal in secret,
of course). It all happened this Thursday. And now they have , as reported,
a truly democratic president in the form of the oppositions election candidate
named Kostunica. Now there´s just the small detail of building up
a functioning country; after four lost wars in ten years, isolation from
the rest of the world and the leading class:s massive robbery of state
property and finance. Somehow I think they will manage, but the road won´t
be easy as this particular part of the world is filled with open wounds
in peoples minds that just won´t heal over one night, anyway: Good
Luck People of Yugoslavia, and welcome back !

Hmm...I
just wanted to share that my new Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40 harddrive didn´t
last more than three weeks before it started spitting out forever bad
sectors. I tried every partitioning/formatting/erasing/boot-sector fiddling
magic, but it had started it´s definitive way towards quick death.
Couldn´t be me though, since I´ve been way ruder (new OS:s
every two weeks for a year) with my old IBM drive and it still runs smooth
as warm butter. Sadly enough so hadn´t I saved the packing material,
so I couldn´t change to another IBM-drive instead. So now(as I write
this) I´m(hopefully not) slowly (fastly?) consuming another new
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus-drive. Runs nice for the moment though (after one
and a half day). I´ve already spitted my fresh Windows Me install
full with the most essentials; Cubase VST32, Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, ReBirth
2.01, CoolEdit2000, Dreamweaver 3, HomeSite 4.51, PhotoShop 5.5 and ALL
hardware drivers(the newest). It all runs very fast with good response
and not a single crash so far...

Hi again ! So what´s up, besides it´s another autumn and the
season behind the computer-display is here again. For one, I´ve
aquired the FULL version of Cubase VST32 5.0 for PC. A really big upgrade
it is. And, at last, stable as a rock ! Earlier Cubase versions for PC
have been rather untrustful, as you all know, but now it just runs and
runs and no worry whatsoever. I might add that I´m using it under
the new Windows Me, which might have improved stability issues since Windows
98SE. In fact, for music creation; Windows Me seems like a really worthwhile
upgrade. Especially since Windows 2000 has so poor multimedia driver support.
Best of both worlds, sort of. While I understand that Office-geeks and
plain programmers have no great need of Windows Me as all other Windows
are sufficient for their tasks, I must strongly point out; for multimedia,
music-creation etc. the extra added stability is truly essential. Conclusion:
All Cubase and Cakewalk-owners out there; get Windows Me. And if you´re
a Cubase for PC owner; the upgrade to 5.0 is a must(stability, stability,
stability). The Cubase 5.0 version I use myself is the VST32, which in
itself is a big step forward. For the first time it´s possible to
record audio in real 32-bit mode. Infinite dynamic range is the result;
no more unwanted digital distortion no matter how loud you raise the volume.
Additionally, Steinberg has developed a small piece of software under
32-bit recording which is called "TrueTape". "TrueTape"
simulates those aurally enjoyable weaknesses of older analog professional
studio tape open reel-decks. Would possibly make even Ivor Tiefenbraun
satisfied with the audio-quality of your recordings. Also, all plug-in
modules in Cubase are completely rewritten, and much better sounding.
Cubase now also has a built in soft-synth sound module with whopping 80Megs
of samples. That one is rather mellow sounding though, Soundblaster Live!:s
soft-synth and most modern external hardware synths sounds much better.
One new feature needed to be mentioned, even if it doesn´t attract
myself, is the possibility to connect to other Cubase 5 users over the
net and create complete recording sessions in real-time with musicians
physically placed on differrent continents all over the planet. How about
calling up Michael Jackson and ask him to instantly do some lead-singing
on your newly created potential smash-hit ? One can only wonder. Anyway,
that´s all for now, make some great recordings and tell me about
it and don´t forget to explore this small site of mine...
